Visit to Hukuru Miskiey
We, the Heritagers Club members of Gn. AEC planned to visit and explore different historical sites in Fuvahmulah.
Here I am going to share with you the different sites that we visit on completing our mission. I will provide you the important information about the places and the pictures of those.
On our visit to Hukuru Miskiey, we were unable to gather much information, we searched here and there but could not get any hint of the place, when it was build and the specialties in there.
So, we requested one lady (Fathimath Ibrahim/ Hunuboli) to provide us with some information about the place, But even she was unable to provide much. But from her we came to know that at the beginning, there was a small place called "Mihuraabuge" in there. Later they built it bigger and used as a mosque. Even at the beginning it was built as a two story building. There was a big well called "Veyo" which was used by the prayers for bathing and ablution. According to her, there was a bridge on that "Veyo". There were two special places in there called "Ziyaaray". In the past Maldivians used to go there and say "Nadhuru". Similarly, these two "Ziyaaray" in Hukuru Miskiey were used for that purpose too.
Hope You enjoyed reading this! Will bring you information about more places soon. Keep on reading.. :)
Inside Hukuru Miskiey Compund
We interviewed some people about the place. The following information were collected from one of them. Faaroogbe is a well known and respected person in the island and he had gathered a lot of information about these historical sites in Fuvahmulah.
According to him, the Hukuru Miskiey was built approximately 82 years ago, by a person from Huvadhu Atoll (Gadhdhoo) named Maavadi Futhaa . Even at the beginning, it was built as two story building.

In the early days, there were big wells named "Veyo" in Fuvahmulah, which were used for bathing and ablution. In Hukuru Miskiey also, there was one Veyo and a bridge was there over this Veyo (this Veyo must be quiet big hah!). These big wells were buried later, since it was identified as a cause for spreading of diseases.
The spot where "Veyo" was before.
In Early days, due to different reasons, people were send to the islands (like committing crimes or even in the case of political disagreements with the government). Likewise, a person from Mal'e named Hassan Izzudheen was sent to Fuvahmulah, due to a political problem. He died in the island and was buried in Hukuru Miskiey (at Ziyaaraiy at the backside of the Mosque).
Hassan Izzudheen's Ziyaaraiy
Just in front of the Mosque, there is another Ziyaaraiy. This is the place where Giyaasudheen Radhun's Ibrahim Faamladheyri Kaleygefaan's family members were buried. They were also sent to the island for different reasons.
